Dark Synergy was formed in April 2007 by singer / songwriter / guitar player Col Brown with classically trained vocalist, Nellie Mokbel. During 2007 Col invited the siren-voiced vocalist to participate in an audition for a lead singer. Col was very impressed by her vocals and genuine passion for his music. The natural choice for Col was to make Nellie his lead singer, bringing with her a unique vocal styling to his music.

Nellie posed the question of a band name – Col suggested Dark Synergy, after the song ‘Dark Synergy’ written by him in 2006. Nellie liked the name and believed in it. As she put it, ‘I like it, and it says a lot!’ Thus, Dark Synergy was born. Dark Synergy expands the limits of Rock, through using speed and volume not for personal gratification only, but to complement their intricately structured compositions. Nellie’s passionate, yet delicate and soulful voice is the icing on the proverbial cake.

Dark Synergy’s music is a blend of dark heavy rock / metal (coined as “Retro-Metal” by a close family member) featuring Nellie’s intense vocals complemented at times by the passion of Col’s vocals. Col’s trademark heavy metal riffs, dark left of center minimalist lyrics and searing lead guitar solos complete the musical package.

The Dark Synergy EP titled “You Are The Killer”, is due for independent release in May 2009 on Dark Synergy Records (DSR) featuring very talented local musicians. ”You Are The Killer” is carefully produced, arranged and timed and is sure to win over national and international fans.

Featuring Col Brown

Col Brown was born in Liverpool, England and grew up in Sydney, Australia. Col began playing guitar at age 20 after being highly influenced by such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour, Black Sabbath, David Bowie and especially Eric Clapton. Col met Eric after a concert in Sydney in 1990 and was so inspired that he began teaching himself guitar. After pursuing Mining Engineering and graduating with Honors Col turned his full attention to the Music.

Col has mastered a unique vocal style. Having demonstrated the innate talent to teach himself guitar, he enjoyed numerous opportunities to play lead guitar and perform locally as a member of the Cover Band, The Scam. The Scam received radio promotion on the Triple M network and opened for Appetite For Destruction (Guns N’ Roses Tribute Show) to a packed to capacity house at The Venue in Adelaide.

 

Featuring Nellie Mokbel 

Nellie Mokbel was born in 1984 and grew up in Sydney, Australia. From a very young age, Nellie had an innate passion for music. Her many and diverse influences have been Nirvana, Metallica, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Jackson, Jon Bon Jovi, The Darkness and Natalie Imbruglia. 

Nellie’s passion for music led her to join the school choir in primary school and participate in solo performances in church at the impressionable age of 12. She was chosen to be the lead singer of the high school band. Naturally, Nellie chose music studies in high school where she further honed in on her musical talent and was encouraged to emphasize her amazing vocal talents for which she received high marks.

Soon thereafter, Nellie continued her vocal development through professional, classical vocal training and also began to pursue her interest in song writing. Her lyrical repertoire provided the bases for two impressive demos created between 2000 and 2003.
