If you were hidden under a rock and missed this event, then absolutely you missed the event of all events as of late, in Austin!  For the 20th consecutive year, the Annual La Dolce Vita made its impressive appearance, Thursday, October 15th on the grounds of the Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria.  Co-Chairs Wendi Martin and Cari Collins were the hostesses with the mostest.  They did an excellent job at ensuring a variety of helpful volunteers, sponsors, lively entertainment and most of all delicious food and wines greeted excited guests at every turn.

La Dolce Vita is definitely a happening party, and it serves a very important philanthropic need.  The Festival is one of Austin Museum of Art’s most important fundraising events.  The monies raised from the event help to keep Austin Artsy as well as sustain the Austin Museum of Art and Laguna Gloria.  This year, the event was SOLD OUT!

I had the pleasure of being part of the two-man Welcoming Committee who realized the 6:00 PM opening of the gates resulted in a mass entrance into the sacred grounds.  Me and my Welcoming Committee partner Happy, greeted with a smile and provided friendly direction to guests as they arrived, while at the same time ensuring they were properly outfitted with the appropriate wrists bands granting various levels of access throughout the event.  How thrilling it was to see varieties of people all united toward the common goal of supporting the arts and the anticipation of memorable time.

Upon entering the gates, the jazzy music of Mr. Fabulous & Casino Royale tickled the ears and were of course, dare I say it, fabulous!  The smell of varietals of wine and culinary delights from some of Austin’s more popular eating establishments permeated the air.  Guests were crazed with excitement and this was just the place you’d want to be to savor the flavor of ‘Austin’.   My favorite food sampling had to be the Shrimp Corn Dogs from Moonshine Patio Bar and Grille.  Mercy those Dogs were good!  Bravo to Piranha Killer Sushi who won the Favorite Restaurant category and Hey Cupcake for the sweet treats.  Mandola Estate Winery took the Favorite Red & White Texas Wine category.  As the evening wore on, the popular DJ Manny got guests to their feet with the latest grooves.

The crowd was a little heavier than usual and parking is always a challenge around Laguna Gloria, but all was forgiven as an Austin tradition was again living to, no exceeded all expectations.  I’m already preparing to man the gates at the 21st Annual La Dolce Vita and you can bet, that one will be ‘the best one yet”!
